Agua y Luz / Snoop

A 2 track broken beat single (10m 17s) — released July 2nd 2007 on Sick Trumpet

Blowing the Sick Trumpet this time around is Sasso, the Manchester based soulster whose tasteful edits of Roy Ayers and The Jacksons are still working the coolest dancefloors across the globe. Moving with the seasons for his first release on Sick Trumpet, 'Agua Y Luz' and 'Snoop' are the perfect summer sound. Without being clichéd or overtly retro they take things right back to the Latin-Funk fusion of the late 70s. On 'Agua Y Luz' we find Sasso bringing that Nuyorican vibe, warming things up as the nights get longer. You would swear this was from the Big Apple, not the Rainy City. With Mike Walker scatting to the guitar in the style of George Benson, rhythms that Tito Puente could work with and piano that evokes images of Chick Corea, this is a truly inspiring Latin trip to soundtrack the sunset. On the flip is 'Snoop', a positive piece of modern jazz-funkery. Balearic synths and guitars lead you into a shuffling house-tempo groover where the rhythms are subtle but commanding and the sax leads a merry dance. Best enjoyed with a cocktail and some space to move. Thank you Sasso, for bringing the sunshine back to the dancefloor.
